Galaxy Express Corporation (GALEX) was established on 27 March 2001. As an entrepreneur in space industrialization and commercialization in Japan, GALEX was formed by seven major Japanese space related industries in order to develop, manufacture GX launch vehicle and provide commercial launch services. After the establishment, more Japanese and U.S. aerospace related companies joined GALEX as shareholders with consensus of GALEX business. Presently GALEX is fully devoted to development of GX launch vehicles for the scheduled maiden flight early in year 2007. Through the joint work between the government and industries in Japan for GX launch vehicle development which is the very first trial in Japan, we GALEX are fully committed to providing the best commercial launch services, satisfying customers needs fully.

Japan Revives Galaxy Express Launch Vehicle Program (Source: Space News)
Nine months after putting the Galaxy Express rocket project on hold, a top Japanese government space panel has authorized a resumption of work on the vehicle. But the future of the Galaxy Express program remains clouded by questions over funding for test flights and market demand for the vehicle. The Galaxy Express first stage is being supplied by Lockheed Martin Corp. and features the RD-180 main engine made by NPO Energomash of Russia. The rocket as currently designed would be capable of placing payloads weighing up to 4.4 tons into low Earth orbit.
