Vll. haben die NASA-TV-Leute nix besseres zu tun?

Leider hat das Bild eine schlechte QUalität. Ist wohl aus der Luft aufgenommen.

Also doch nur eine Crew Kabine in WK2. Schade dass auf dem Bild nicht mehr zu erkennen ist. Aber naja, am 28. dürfen wir ja das Baby in seiner ganzen Pracht bewundern.

Ich war grad auf der Homepage von  der AirVenture Oshkosh, zu der der Rollout von WK2 live übertragen werden soll.


Die machen wohl die ganze Woche über eine Art Radio-Berichterstattung. Der Rollout wird sicher das High-Lite der Flugveranstaltung sein,  ich bin mir sicher, dass die da einiges (live) darüber berichten werden. Von dem Sender wird es einen Live-Stream übers Internet geben.

Direkte Live-Bilder wären mir aber immer noch lieber

Hier ein interessanter Artikel im TheSpaceReview. Im wesentlichen geht es darum, warum es bisher keinen einzigen suborbitalen Flug seit SpaceShipOne gegeben hat. Natürlich lässt sich bei Armadillo, Blue Origin, XCOR etc.. Fortschritte erkennen aber keiner ist bisher auch nur in die Nähe eines Versuchs eines suborbitalen Raumflugs gekommen. Auch bei Virgin Galactic lief es auch anders als geplant. Hieß es anfangs noch, dass der erste kommerzielle Flug 2007 startet, wird er nun frühstens 2010 stattfinden. Warum? Nun was Virgin Galactic angeht, so hatte man anfangs offenbar die Entwicklung eines SpaceShipOnes B geplant, dass schnell zu bauen gewesen wäre. Man entschied sich jedoch dann dagegen, weil man befürchtete so die Kunden nicht richtig zu frieden zu stellen und entschloss sich daher für die Entwicklung des viel größeren SpaceShipTwo. Dann kam auch noch der Unfall in Mojave dazu.

Ich denke, die anderen Firmen haben einfach den Aufwand ihrer Projekte unterschätzt und nicht erkannt wie groß der Durchbruch von SpaceShipOne wirklich war.

Natürlich bin ich sicher, dass WK2 dieses Jahr und SS2 nächstes Jahr fliegen wird.

Spaceport Sweden, wo SpaceShipTwo Touristen in die Aurora fliegen soll, untersucht gerade ob man rechtlich gesehen SpaceShipTwo als Höhenforschungsrakete einstufen kann. Ansonsten müsste man auf Gesetzesänderungen hoffen, was aber vermutlich viele Jahre in Anspruch nehmen könnte.

PS: Es wurden übrigens noch nie Aufnahmen von innerhalb der Aurora gemacht.

Gibt es denn bemannte Höhenforschungsraketen?
Ich kenne das schwedische Recht nicht, aber es sollen Zivilpersonen kommerziell transportiert werden. Die Idee mit der Höhenforschungsrakete halte ich für illusorisch ...

In 18 Tagen ist ja bekanntlich der Rollout von WK2. Am darauffolgenden Tag wird BurtRutan auf der EAA AirVenture Oshkosh sein und sich dort den Fragen des Publikums stellen. Das ganze findet am 29. Juli von 8:50 pm bis 10:00 pm Ortszeit statt, also 03:50 MEZ bis 05:00 MEZ am 30. Juli.

Obs einen Livestream gibt, weiß ich nicht, in jedem Fall gibt es das EAA Radio, sodass man wahrscheinlich zumindestens zuhören kann.

Im wesentlichen nicht viel neues. Es soll 140 Testflüge geben. SS2 wird Anfang des nächsten Jahres enthüllt. Arnold Schwarzenegger und diverse andere Politker werden bei dem Rollout von WK2 in 9 Tagen dabei sein.

Die ersten 15 Kilometer hatte es sein Trägerflugzeug „White Knight“ huckepack in die Höhe getragen. Doch die Experten von Scaled Composites in Kalifornien waren seither nicht untätig. In den nächsten Tagen will die Firma, die mit dem Geld des britischen Partnerkonzerns Virgin Galactic arbeitet, den Nachfolgeflieger „White Knight Two“ präsentieren. Der größere „Weiße Ritter“ soll von 2009 an das ebenfalls gewachsene „SpaceShipTwo“ ins All tragen – und in ihm die ersten Weltraumtouristen.

SpaceShipTwo ist nun zu 70% fertig. Zur Erinnerung: Im Januar war es zu 50 % fertig. Daraus folgt, dass es Ende des Jahre zu 90% fertig ist und dass der Rollout von SpaceShipTwo dann im ~März 2009 stattfinden könnte.

zumindest beim nun anstehenden Rolloiut von WK2 wird es nicht solange bis zum Jungfernflug dauern. Dieser ist nämlich für Anfang September geplant.

Der Rollout von WhiteKnightTwo wird am 28. Juli 2008 um 7:30 a.m. Ortszeit, also um 16:30 MEZ stattfinden.

In Oshkosh gibt es zwei Virgin Galactic Präsentationen:
1. Präsentation 29. Juli Pavillion #7, 1:00 p.m. (20:00 MEZ)
2. Präsentation 29. Juli Theatre in the Woods, 9:00 p.m. (30. Juli 04:00 MEZ)

So noch ein paar Infos: WhiteKnightTwo hat eine Nutzlastkapazität von 12 Tonnen auf 15 km. Außerdem heißt es, SS2 wäre zu 75% fertig, wohingegen ein früherer Artikel 70% meint. Der Unterschied liegt aber innerhalb der Fehlergrenzen würd ich sagen.

Das ganze Flugzeug besteht aus CFK. Zum Vergleich: Der A380 hat nur 25% CFK, der Dreamliner 50 % und der A350 52%.

Schwarzenegger soll den Namen des Flugzeugs (>Eve<) bekanntgeben.

Virgin Galactic lässt sich das Ganze einiges kosten. Geladene Gäste und die Presse werden extra vom Los Angeles Airport mit einer Maschine von Virgin America nach Mojave geflogen. Außerdem hat Virgin Galactic nun 258 Leute, die den Flugpreis zumindestens teilweise bezahlt haben. Weitere 600 Leute haben zugestimmt zu bezahlen, wenn "das Programm startet"(wann immer dieser Zeitpunt sein mag). Damit ist nun fast bei dem Ziel von 1000 angezahlten Tickets vor kommerziellen Flugbeginn angekommen. Aus allen europäischen Ländern sind "Weltraumtouristen" dabei, nur aus Schottland nicht, was den Schotten Will Whitehorn (Präsident Virgin Galactic) betrübt.

Gerüchten zu Folge gab es gestern ein Rollout Ereignis nur für Scaled Angestellte.

VIRGIN GALACTIC ROLLS OUT MOTHERSHIP “EVE”

WhiteKnightTwo launch vehicle for SpaceShipTwo heralds a new era in aerospace fuel efficiency, performance and versatility

Mojave Air and Spaceport, California
July 28th 2008

Virgin Founder, Sir Richard Branson and SpaceShipOne designer, Burt Rutan, today pulled back the hangar doors on the new WhiteKnightTwo (WK2) carrier aircraft that will ferry SpaceShipTwo and thousands of private astronauts, science packages and payload on the first stage of the Virgin Galactic sub-orbital space experience.
 
The rollout represents another major milestone in Virgin Galactic’s quest to launch the world’s first private, environmentally benign, space access system for people, payload and science.

Christened “EVE” in honor of Sir Richard’s mother, who performed the official naming ceremony, WK2 is both visually remarkable and represents ground-breaking aerospace technology. It is the world’s largest all carbon composite aircraft and many of its component parts have been built using composite materials for the very first time. At 140 ft, the wing spar is the longest single carbon composite aviation component ever manufactured.

Driven by a demanding performance specification set by Virgin Galactic, WK2 has a unique heavy lift, high altitude capability and an open architecture driven design which provides for maximum versatility in the weight, mass and volume of its payload potential. It has the power, strength and maneuverability to provide for pre space-flight, positive G force and zero G astronaut training as well as a lift capability which is over 30% greater than that represented by a fully crewed SpaceShipTwo. The vehicle has a maximum altitude over 50,000 ft and its U.S. coast-to-coast range will allow the spaceship to be ferried on long duration flights.

An all carbon composite vehicle of this size represents a giant leap for a material technology that has already been identified as a key contributor to the increasingly urgent requirement by the commercial aviation sector for dramatically more fuel efficient aircraft. Powered by four Pratt and Whitney PW308A engines, which are amongst the most powerful, economic and efficient available, WK2 is a mold breaker in carbon efficiency and the epitome of 21st century aerospace design and technology.

The twin fuselage and central payload area configuration allow for easy access to WK2 and to the spaceship for passengers and crew; the design also aids operational efficiencies and turnaround times. WK2 will be able to support up to four daily space flights, is able to carry out both day and night time operations and is equipped with a package of highly advanced avionics.

Large numbers of VIP’s, media and more than 100 fully signed-up future Virgin Galactic astronauts flew into Mojave for the rollout onboard a new Airbus A320 aircraft specially chartered from Virgin America, the youngest and most efficient US domestic airline, which launched to great acclaim in 2007.

Rutan’s Scaled Composites facility has been strictly out of bounds whilst design and construction has been underway, but guests today were additionally given a tantalizing preview of SpaceShipTwo, clearly visible but heavily shrouded and well on its way to completion, in the smaller of Scaled’s two hangars awaiting its own rollout in 2009. This will be scheduled once WK2 is at the appropriate stage in its extensive test program, which has already begun with ground tests; it is expected to take its first flight in the fall of 2008.  The flight test program will be comprehensive even before SpaceShipTwo is carried as a payload for the first time in 2009.

Commenting on the rollout, Burt Rutan, Founder of Scaled Composites said:
