Liebe Mitforisten,
wie praktische jede andere Großveranstaltung in diesem Corona-Jahr, wurde auch der ursprünglich in Dubei geplante IAC verschoben.
Aber wie jetzt von der Direktorin der International Astronautical Federation (IAF) Frau Pascale Ehrenfreund bekanntgegeben wurde, fällt der 71. IAC in diesem Jahr nicht komplett aus, sondern findet virtuell und online statt :o:
71. International Astronautical Congress (IAC) – The CyberSpace Edition
Als Termin wurde der Zeitraum vom 12. - 14. Oktober 2020 festgelegt.

Genauere Infos zum Programm und der Logistik sollen noch mitgeteilt werden.
Hierzu wurde eine entsprechende Website eingerichtet:

Man darf gespannt sein, zu welchen Konditionen man teilnehmen können wird.
In der Vergangenheit waren die Online-Veröffentlichungen bei den IAC nicht gerade ein Schnäppchen.
Trotzdem sollten wir das Thema im Auge behalten, denn aus eigener Erfahrung kann ich sagen, dass die Vorträge und Diskussionen fast immer auf höchstem Niveau stattfanden.
Bei den technical sessions steigt man dann schon ganz tief ein in wissenschaftliche und technische Detailfragen.
Vom fachlichen also absolut zu empfehlen.
Auf die außerordentliche Messepräsentation muss man allerdings verzichten.
Auch eine bittere Pille ist, dass parallel auch verkündet wurde, dass der 72. IAC in 2021 in Dubai stattfinden wird und dann erst der 73. in 2022 in Paris, der 74. wohl in Baku in Aserbeidschan.
Gerade auf den IAC in Paris, ursprünglich nächstes Jahr geplant, hatte ich mich schon ganz fest eingeschworen (und eigentlich von der Vorfreude gelebt).
Jetzt heißt es auch da, noch ein Jahr warten. 8)

Ja, viele andere Tagungen/Kongresse, die vorher stattfinden sollten, sind ja auch schon gecancelt.
ich weiß micht, was man von einem 'Cyber Space' Kongreß halten soll. Denn die ganzen Vorträge sind zwar interessant, aber werden oft nur eingereicht, um auf Kosten des Arbeitgebers (Orgs. oder Firmen) teilnehmen zu können. Deshalb wird es diesmal garantiert sehr viel weniger Vortragsanmeldungen geben.
Das wirklich interessante - und wichtige - an solchen Kongressen sind die vielen Gespräche am Rande, oder auf den social events, bei denen leicht und schnell Kontakte geknüpft werden können. Wann sonst kommt man als 'normaler' Wissenschaftler/Ingenieur schon mal mit den Chefs von ESA, NASA, etc. ins Gespräch?
Wenn es diese Kontakte aber nicht gibt, wird das Interesse wahrscheinlich eher mau sein. :(

Das IAF hat jetzt mitgeteilt, dass die online-Beiträge des 71. IAC kostenlos für die "entire global community" sein sollen.
Ob mit "community" jetzt nur das "Fachpublikum" gemeint ist oder jeder, ist mir jedoch noch nicht ganz klar.

Während der drei Tage des IAC werden die "Technical Sessions" online angeboten, d.h. diese meist 10 - 15 min. Vorträge können (nach Registrierung) beliebig abgerufen werden (hier sind nur die wenigen Keynotes aufgelistet).
Technical sessions
IAC 2020 – The CyberSpace Edition will feature a Virtual Technical Programme based on a compilation of 10-minute video lectures.
The presentations will be available throughout the entire duration of the congress, 12 to 14 October, in the form of a **Technical Presentations' Virtual Gallery**. The Virtual Gallery will be grouped per Symposia, where all the video lectures and the full papers submitted to each Symposium will be be available to the Congress participants.
The authors’ interest in participating in the Virtual Technical Programme has exceeded all expectations. With **over 1300 video lectures** we can expect a very rich and diverse Technical Programme presenting the latest research outcomes in space.

Die IAF ist mächtig stolz auf ihren IAC - Cyberspace Edition:
13.100 registered participants from 135 countries
23.500 visits of booths in the virtual exhibition
3.200 views of the Opening Ceremony
3.200 view of the Heads of Agency Plenary
21.000 views of the 1.300 technical presentations in the Online Technical Presentation Gallery
Natürlich kann so eine Online-Session das "Feeling vom Gefühl her" nicht annähernd erzeugen, wie ein echter Kongress.
Auch war der Inhalt teilweise etwas geglättet, wobei das daran liegen könnte, dass bei einer Videokonferenz keine offene Diskussion entstehen kann.
Deshalb wurden echte "Spitzen" weitgehend vermieden.
Wobei die Aussage von Rogosin, dass das Gateway zu sehr "US-centric" ist, schon sehr deutlich war.
Allerdings hat es dann an Möglichkeiten gefehlt, da massiv nachzufragen.
Generell muss ich aber sagen, es hat technisch sehr gut funktioniert!
Das ist nicht selbstverständlich, die ESA hat sich da beim ESTEC-Open-Day nicht gerade mit Ruhm bekleckert.
Dafür, dass das ganze kostenlos und für jeden zugänglich war, war es eine super Sache.
Trotzdem, 2022 sind der 18. bis 22. September (Paris) ganz dick markiert!

Falls man ohne Maske im Thalys nach Paris fahren kann und auch die Veranstaltung ähnlich wie in Bremen zu erleben ist, bin ich gerne dabei. :D Gleich mal einen Termin im Outlook einplanen. ;)
